It is reported from Sayyīdunā `Ali (r) that the Prophet (s) said: “Let all of you spend the night of mid-Sha`bān in worship (i.e. partly) and its day in fasting. For verily in it, Allah descends to the nearest heaven during this night, beginning with sunset, and says: Is there no one asking forgiveness that I may forgive them?

Prophet Abraham was the father of the prophets and was granted spiritual vision to see the workings of the universe and Prophet Moses was granted to speak with his Lord. But Allah moved Prophet Muhammad with his physical body in defiance of the physical laws of the universe to the Unseen, a place where there is nothing and no possibility of anything to be there. Allah took Muhammad there and revealed Himself to him, in the manner He wished.
