Imam Mateen Siddiqui
Imam Mateen Siddiqui was reared in an Islamic background from a young age and was very involved in Muslim community activism, under primarily Deobandi and Ikhwani influence. As a member of the Ikhwan al-Muslimeen, he studied under the notorious cleric, Dr. Abdullah Azzam, in Jordan and was active in the organization in the US for several years.
He eventually left the Ikhwan movement, in search of comprehensive and authentic teachings of the Ahl s-Sunnah wa’l Jama`at that respects differences between jurists and fosters a profound spiritual discipline.
Imam Siddiqui has continued his study of Islamic law (shariah), jurisprudence (fiqh), theology (aqida),and spirituality (tasawwuf),under the tutelage of Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani. Fluent in Arabic, he has spent the last 23 years, traveling throughout the world, working in various capacities to advance classical Islamic principles of the Ahl as-Sunnah, including the critical aspect of Tasawwuf.
Mateen Siddiqui was one of the founding associates of the As-Sunnah Foundation of America (ASFA) in the early 1990’s. Involved in its development since its inception, he played a key role in developing intellectual content for the Foundation’s electronic and print publications. As President, his responsibilities include researching, editing and publishing seminal works such as Shaykh Kabbani’s seven-volume Encyclopedia of Islamic Doctrine, and The Muslim Magazine. He also chaired two Islamic Unity Conferences which were co-sponsored by ASFA. Bringing together prominent Islamic scholars from around the world, these conferences showcased scholarship that demonstrates Islam as “the middle way,” as illustrated by Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
Imam Siddiqui is also the founder of the innovative and highly successful online portal for Islamic knowledge, eShaykh.com. He is responsible for organizing and directing all eShaykh online activities including outreach to scholars and the academic resources to prepare and present fatawa online. The eShaykh website has over 725K page views, over 150K unique visitors and has addressed over 17,000 fatwas, questions, dreams and prayer requests.
His career also involves significant contributions in the field of disaster relief and poverty alleviation. He has developed a series of wells and relief supply centers in drought-affected East Africa in 2011 and has previously arranged delivery of medical and food supplies to poverty-stricken areas of the Philippines in 2005; medical, food and housing supplies in South East Asia after the 2004 tsunami; and has helped place several hundred orphans in safe and nurturing facilities in Jakarta. He has also had extensive interaction with the Afghan interim government in 2003 and has led multiple trips to the region to ensure delivery and distribution of medical supplies, including representing Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani at the 2013 Peace Conference in Kabul.
In addition to his responsibilities at the ASFA, Imam Siddiqui is Vice President of the Islamic Supreme Council of America (ISCA), where he oversees all electronic and print publications for the organization and manages many conferences and seminars both domestically and abroad. He also is an Imam at ISCA’s Burton, Michigan location, the As-Siddiq Institute, where he leads Jum’aah, holds weekly seminars and is a resource for the local Muslim community.
