The area is earmarked for development of new apartment buildings and shops by the Chinese government. The local Uyghurs will not be able to afford the new housing, and transmigrant Chinese from central and eastern parts of the country will move in to the traditionally Uyghur region. The Uyghurs are furious. Those who lived in the areas were compensated with the lowest rates possible (approx. $12/sq. m), and cannot afford to buy another house. The ones who still have houses are angry that the government is destroying a 500-year-old city that holds much of the rich Uyghur history. --- Image by © Ashley Gilbertson/VII /Corbis What Ibn Taymiyya Said About Sufism, a lecture by Taher Siddiqui at Masjid in Columbia, South Carolina, July 2012 Previous articleIslamic Spirituality: the Forgotten RevolutionNext articleBaydawi’s Tafsir – Surat al-Fatiha
